OK, the problem I have is having bought a used 2010 Toyota Auris and I discovered that there is only one single key. All attempts to get the dealer to locate the other from the person who had the car before me failed.

So, next step was to find out what these cost, long story short they come in at £280, which is one large sum of money. Looking round eBay for example, you can locate second hand keys that are identical in all respects at around £60 but the big problem is that once they have been programmed to a car they cannot be reused without some deep and complex procedures using the OBD connection and Toyota TechStream software. However, the fact is, that the dealers do not have the skills/training or whatever to do this complex process, this means that they can only take a new key and apply that to the vehicle EMS. I have searched high and low and there are a good few people out there (mainly in the USA) who have mastered this and provided detailed instructions (not sure if I should be providing links but if anyone is interested I can provide). So it is possible to add a used key but you must reset the vehicle locking system (basically remove all existing keys) and then apply all the keys you need including the original. This requires a new 'seed' that of course is confidential and is provided by Toyota central.

My question (finally getting round to it!), is this: are there any auto-locksmiths in the UK who are able to do this or learn how to do it? As I believe that there is a big market out there for Toyota/Lexus owners who need more spare keys at a reasonable price and they all use the same Tokia Rika locking and proximity detection system.

Thanks for any ideas or contacts.

Have you found a UK supplier for this service? or have you over come the problem by some other means. Unfortunately I also purchased a second hand remote on ebay and am looking for a way to get it working. by which means can Toyota supply you with a code that will allow you to delete all keys? how much do they charge?

Hi, I have found a solution to the used key programming problem and have successfully set up my second spare key.

The situation was this: I bought a so-called new key from a Polish dealer, it was assured to be brand new (it did look it anyway) and it cost around 100UKP. On attempting to program this key, I may have not followed the correct steps in setting the vehicle type when using Techstream, so it failed. Looking round from time to time for a solution I discovered this guy http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111920134858 who reset the key for 15UKP. I then very carefully followed the instructions here http://www.rav4world.com/forums/96-4-3-general/186... and had no problems. The steps for a new key are quite straightforward but the Rav4 link shows all the details for both new and used key programming (and it looks like it uses the same technology)

Let me know if you need any more details.
