I need my liners machining on the top face sealing area. They can't be fitted into a block and decked, they need to be done individually.

Can't find anywhere that can do it.

Usual practice is to fit liners in block, retain them, mill/skim block, remove liners and mill/skim block the amount to 'pre-load' the liners. Failing that, if you have the correct measurements to machine the liners to, a machine shop with a large chuck lathe should be able to machine the ends of your liners.

depends where you are.
I had my Mini engine done here

They have a nice setup and should be able to do anything you need

Liners are fully floating in a split case so can't be decked in situ

The centre liner is fitted over the piston in a flat 6 Porsche 996 turbo.

I'm worried they will go out of round on a lathe.

The engines have been around for quite a while, I am sure the Factory and many other folk have done this before, what is the standard workshop practice?

Careful lathe work and the liners will be safe and sound.

When I went there he was working on liners for a vintage Aston and had all sorts of blocks and things in progress. A very nice chap.

Why do you think you need to machine the liners?

Surely they couldnt generically supply them to fit all blocks without machining ?

Although I'm not familiar with either wet liners or his engine.

I called rob, he asked me what the problem was, I said darton and he cut me off and said he couldn't do it. Didn't even discuss what the problem was. He then asked what car and I said Porsche and he said he didn't work on Porsche! Yet his site lists Porsche work. Very odd. Went on to say how busy he was etc..

At Autosport a couple of years ago there were a few places displaying their various Porsche work.

Capricorn was one, cant recall names of the other. None of it looked cheap though !

The mezger flat 6 has the centre liner installed over the piston. It's fully floating with o-rings. So you can't fit and deck like conventional blocks.

I need the marks removed from the top face to seal the gasket.

I've had no luck, so had to buy some LA Liners now.

I've called a fair few people now and no one wants to know, I don't think darton have a good reputation going by the feedback, very frustrating.

Hmm that is odd. Having a good look around his machine shop and chatting to him I would have said he should be able to do anything although I would say most of the stuff in there was old or vintage looking stuff. Perhaps he has been burnt before.

Oh fer gord's sake min. Them little itty bitty scratches ye can barely see wi'oot a magnifying glass? They don't even go all the way into the piston bore. Rub them oot wi' a bit of wet and dry paper and stop yer greetin. Flat surface, a sheet of 180 grit, glued down if necessary to stop it moving, bit of paraffin for lubricant, 5 minute job.

I did consider that!

But I'm using 12mm head studs so the gaskets have to be cut and are expensive.

It needs special assembly and timing tools which i don't have so have to pay someone to assemble.

I'm running 800hp but capable of 1000 on my turbo selection.

Even dropping the engine is more than a new set of liners. One is really deep too.

If it was my Westy with this problem id happily do the above!
