First off I have to apologize, I'm rather clueless when it comes to cars.

As mention in the title, I have a Peugeout 206 1.4 Combi-coupé, it just about turned 130.000 km.

I've been having some trouble with this weird squeezing sound coming from the car, from what I've managed to google, it might be the clutch bearing, but I'd thought I'd give it a go and ask here.

The squeaking sound is there whenever I'm driving, especially in 1 and 3 gear, however as soon as I press down on the clutch (not much mind you, maybe 0,5 cm - 1 cm) it goes away. Any ideas?

Also, considering how old the cars is, is it worth fixing it?
I went to a car mechanic and asked a little around, he said it would be about 10.000 nok (around £823 ) ($1200) to fix it. (He said something about the clutch, and if that was gone you had to change something in the gearbox as well as that probably would be worn out. But meh, car talk goes in one ear and out the other, sorry. I could ask for more information if that would help)

Just to give you something to go on in regards to norwegian pricing of the said car, most 206 2003 around 100-120.000km goes for about 28.000 nok (£2305)($3360) to 38.000 nok (£3130)($4562) (tho most of them seems to be without sunroof and "electronic climate controll" (or whatever you call it) )

So all in all, would it actually be worth fixing it for that price? Mind you I bought it for less then a year ago for 34.000 nok (£2800) ($4081)

Are repair costs insane where you are ?

Even a complete clutch replacement shouldnt cost anywhere near that.

The description is very poor...but you mention if you lightly touch the clutch pedal and it goes away....it could be a loose pedal, release bearing problem or indeed anything else !

But even if it was a complete clutch including release bearing, that price you mention is insane. You could buy a complete working 206 here for that !

Oh sorry, I'm not sure how else to explain it, other than when driving or having it in free, it makes a a rather loud whiny sound. But as soon as you press the clutch in a little the sound will stop. I'll see about getting a recording g of the sound.

Oh and yes, cars in norway are ridiculously expensive, refering to the prices I gave as an example in the OP

Clutch release bearings breaking up are fairly common on those old Pugs. When they do go it would make MORE noise when the clutch pedal is pressed and you would feel it through your foot?
When you say the noise disappears when you press the pedal makes me think its the spigot shaft bearing in the gearbox.
It will be a MA gearbox and that is a known problem.
I would surgest you find yourself an old Peugeot expert who would test and decide what the noise is.

So the noise is only when driving, in gear and foot not on the clutch ?

Does it change in different gears ? during acceleration or slowing down ?

It could well be a gearbox problem, as Old Merc says, it would be more common for a release bearing to make noise when your foot is pressing the clutch pedal.

Scrap it and buy an old Volvo lol Or just drive it until it breaks. If it needs a gearbox, it will still need a gearbox after it breaks anyway.
