Hi,

I've got a 2003 of the above and it recently went in for an intermittent misfire issue. The codes were read and the MAF is faulty so changed. Misfire codes were still being read, though not so much felt as before. Compression test was done, all ok. Spark plugs were removed and 5 of the 6 were quite fouled with oil.

Now, I know that nothing definitive can be decided from this but what is the most likely cause? I'm hoping it's not piston rings or valve guides. Is it possible, and I'm hoping it is, it could be the result of a bad PCV valve?

As far as I'm aware the plugs have been in for 10k and oil for 16k, but I can't be sure. Car has only done 60k.

Answers on a postcard! Thanks.

It could be a dodgy breather system of which PCV is one aspect.

I would highly doubt it's piston rings or valve guides unless it has had one horrific life.

Not really relevant to your question but you say oil was last changed 16k miles ago and vehicle has only done 60k. These now commonly used 20k oil change intervals are for cars doing constant high mileage, on a low mileage car I would be suggesting at least an annual oil change.

Yeah, I would have done a more regular oil change but I only bought the car recently
