Hmm, interesting.
I only know, from experience with scale models that 'chrome' parts are vacuum plated. I doubt you can have plstics electroplated, unless there's a way of first adding an electrically conductive coating?
This isn't a recommendation but this is the kind of thing I'm thinking of...

I think it's the same principle as used on modern car badges, whihc are bright 'chrome' and obviously resistant to weather and UV light.
