Astra Elite 1.6 petrol H/2009 - intermittent start failure

Hi all

I recently bought an astra elite 1.6 H/2009 and after having it for around a month the car failed to start and problem has been ongoing for about 6 weeks now. It starts first time every time after being left over night but when driving throughout the day, if you turn it off you might not get it back on for the next 30 - 90 minutes (sometimes will be ok starting on 2nd or 3rd attempt but then other times you could be sat there trying for an hour before it starts). When it does fail, you turn the key, the dash lights up, fuel needle moves, no warning/engine lights or anything and there is a click at the back where it sounds like it is trying to start but engine does not turn over at all?

Any ideas as to what this might be?

such a terrible description...

but either a flat battery, dodgy connection, dodgy starter etc.

You have given a very good description, ignore the fools...the internet is full of them

First you need to check the engine earth and main battery positive supply lead, if all is good, there is a very good chance that the starter is at fault. If the starter is at fault it is likely that the brushes are worn out or the armature is faulty as these components often first fail when hot

So you think a dodgy starter...when one part of his description says no warning or engine lights at all on the dash ?

neither broken earth or live lead to the starter will do that...but a flat battery would...or perhaps a dodgy key/barrel etc

There should always be some lights lit on key on.

The description clearly needs work.
