Changed oil filter, without draining / replacing oil

Doh. Doh. DOH.

First time self servicing...

So I just changed the oil filter. Took the shroud from underneath the car off. Consulted Haynes. Discovered I needed a 'sump plug removal tool'

Halfords shut. Argh. Will try again next week.

Meanwhile, have I ruined / negated the new oil filter due to not being able to put the new oil into the system ? Big problem.

In a word yes.

You are now pumping all that mucky oil through your nice clean filter.

Get another & do it with the oil when you get the plug removal tool, whatever form that takes.
