I have made the mistake of deciding to clean my cars properly.... It really sucks you in doesn't it??

Started off picking stuff up in the 3 for 2 Halfords deal. Moved on to 'proper' polish and then discovered another forum that is dedicated to Detailing in the World..... My God it sucks you in!

I've now worked my way up to a large plastic storage box full of various micro fibre cloths, Polish, Quick Detailer, sealants etc.

Have gravitated to what seems like specialist combos depending on colour of the car!!

Life is too short ...... But currently waiting for my extra gloss protection to 'cure' before I try out my new exciting Swissvax Lotus Speed (better make a difference for the damn price!)

And have caught up with the GP between stages smile

Nice pork. I have 997 pork and like you have a bucket of 'stuff' for cleaning. However, I have stuck to amateur autoglym stuff as for the time invested gives good results, and I love the aquawax they make!

A few days ago, before Silverstone classic, I polished with super resin and sealed with extra gloss protection. Always looks great (I do notice swirls and fine lines under garage lights though). I was wondering how much extra difference a wax actually makes on top of this combo? The aqua wax always produces a slick finish. Car is used predominantly in dry conditions, and I only seem to need to polish and seal every 6-8 months when I feel the cloths drag a bit.

So, should I get wax?!

Funnily enough it gets easy and you end up more efficient at it.

Claying for example is a right old faff but I knew I needed to do it on the Mrs SL prior to machine polishing. A detailing mate of mine recommended soapy water rather than quick detailer to lubricate the paint. Because there was an abundance of water by comparison I was far quicker claying the car than before and actually it was quite enjoyable.

Waxing a car takes a lot less time than when I first started out as you learn how much to apply and how long to leave it etc. I recall the first time I applied Collinite and I really caked it on, making sure every angle was covered. It baked on and was an absolute b!tch to buff. Last time I applied it was to the Mrs car after polishing and a thin, even coat, left on for a shorter time buffed off easily and didn't take long. I'll apply a second coat after the next wash and should last.

I think it gets easier and more satisfying. smile
