Hi all,

Long story short, have got the V6, 24v Granada Cosworth BOA engine back out of my Capri due to timing chain tensioner issues, and ended up having the heads off as I figured in for a penny and all that...

Have got a pair of BOB cams to go back in, and am in the process of cleaning up the heads, ready to fit new valve stem seals, and i've gotten around to thinking about whether or not the heads need to be skimmed?

AFAIK the head gaskets were fine - certainly they don't show any signs of damage, and the engine drove ok last time I used it. Is it normal practice to have the heads skimmed/pressure tested when doing a head gasket replacement?

Also, now i've got it apart, is there "good general practice" about checking over the bottom end while you've got the heads off, and the engine out of the car? I haven't ever compression tested this engine, so I don't know what sort of state its in - would a machine shop be able to give me an idea of how good condition everything was in, without having the engine back together?

Thanks

T
