Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have a 2015 CLA220d, it was involved in a front end accident and we are repairing it. We are approaching near the end of the process however we have an issue of starting it. Attached is a picture of the problem that we think it is, this is off the snapon machine. I'm wondering if anyone knows what the "K88 Resistance value of ignition circuit (pyrotechnic seperator) is? I've asked a lot of people but nobody is sure what it is.

Thanks in advance

This document about the gearbox refers to the K88 Pyrotechnical separator on Page 14

I have heard of some cars having systems in place to "drop" the engine/gearbox out of the way in a crash, could this be what is called a pyrotechnic separator?

IIRC from my merc days it's a physical actuated fuse that blows in the event of a crash to disconnect/isolate the electrical system.

From the faults I imagine they're interlinked.

I'll see if I can find out where it is for you from the guys I still know at the dealer.

Further reading of that document I found would indicate it is working much like your normal inertia switch but is triggered via can bus from the airbag system.

Thanks for all your help guys, I've changed the fuses that we thought were causing the problem but had no luck. If you could find out from the guys at the dealer it would be of great help.

Does the particular car you have in your workshop have the pyrofuse then that has been reset/replaced?

Going by the parts catalogue, it should:

I've changed them fuses so I'm not sure what's causing the problem. It may be software related but if someone could point me in right direction I would appreciate it

Wild guess but even if you've correctly identified and replaced the offending device, the system might need to be reset using the proper Mercedes StarDiagnose diagnostic kit.
