Problems getting 2nd 4th and reverse

I am getting grinding on maybe 1 in 5 changes to 2nd and probably every time I go for reverse, except for when I put it in a forward gear first, which I understand lines up the selector, then it goes in. 4th isn't great all the time. Clearly it needs sorted, but garage says it isn't cables, which I thought it was and that it needs hundreds of investigative work on the gearbox itself.

Anyone know any good gearbox specialists in Kidderminster or Wolverhampton area?

It's a 5 speed Ford Duratec HE engine 2 litre, so it is the 3 gears on bottom of the gate, top ones are ok, though it has popped out of first a couple of times

turned out to be a broken pin in the gear selector - £120 and fixed by A1 Clutches - recommended
