If it worked...
Reminds me of that Colin Chapman story, not sure if myth- he’d have an odds and sods box of crownwheels, pinions, gears which wouldn’t mesh properly and he’d build them up and drive fifty miles with metal polish instead of gear oil and hey presto.
I guess he was nuts too .but did it work ?Reminds me of that Colin Chapman story, not sure if myth- he’d have an odds and sods box of crownwheels, pinions, gears which wouldn’t mesh properly and he’d build them up and drive fifty miles with metal polish instead of gear oil and hey presto.

Grow up try helping people if you know how
He is helping, by making it clear how idiotic it would be to add that crap to a gearbox. Hopefully this will avoid anyone else foolishly trying the same thing. If you really did add it, he may even be helping you by making you realise how bad an idea that was.
Still keeping an open mind about whether you're a troll, or just an idiot.
Yes I did add the contents of a small tin of wd40 water dispersen oil to my gear box as the oil Peugeot said use 75w /80w was too thick, so i thinned it and never mentioned try it and 1000 miles covered and it's fine, if it had not worked it would not have mattered as if the 3rd gear was duff the box would have been changed any way nothing lost just a £1 tin of wd40

can not do any harm it's oil
That's a completely false assumption. Modern oil contains a complex cocktail of additives and modifiers designed to work together. By mixing in that tin of crap you have introduced unknown chemicals into the mix. You have no idea what effect they'll have.GreenV8S said:

If it works, and had the 3rd gear been duff .no loss as the box would have been renewed so nothing lost just a £1 tin of wd40 ,but as it has worked it's saved a very expensive job being done try looking at the BIGGER PICTURE I had every thng to gain here
Hopefully this will avoid anyone else foolishly trying the same thing. And saving money on a duff gear, re any gear

Still keeping an open mind about whether you're a troll, or just an idiot. .... Both for trying

You have no idea what effect they'll have.If you check the haynes manual there is no section in stripping the gear box it says to many special tools needed so it's not been added for good reason most people know nothing about gear boxes .but I do why did Blmc use engine oil in the Austin 1800 2200 maxi mini Austin 1100 1300 and so on all had 20/50 and the diff was also lubricated with the same oil and the engine too how did they know it would work they tested it just like I am doing with my box if it does fail so be it but as of now it's fine

As the 3rd gear was not usable ok had nothing to I loose as if this had not made any difference it would. Not have mattered as I would have just put a new box in but as it has cured the problem for now I am happy to get the rest of the life out of the old box you never know it might last the car out or mabe not what did ok have to loose nothing ventured nothing gained
