I have a Mazda 6 2.2 diesel with a characteristically failed DPF. I have taken the DPF off so I can send it off to be cleaned, and that process went fine. The DPF had four sensors on it, three Exhaust Gas Temperature sensors and the Lambda. As always, these were a PITA to get out, my Lambda sensor removal socket just splayed, so I used my Stillsons and big breaker bar which got that off. The other sensors came out fine, barring one! One of the temperature sensors I put the stillies onto, as I went to turn it (stillies being self tightening of course) the hex just squashed. I put a spanner on it, and with a bit of teasing, it came out. The barrel of the sensor looks fine (its still circular and doesn't look squashed), the hex is however damaged and a bit squashed.

A new sensor would cost £260! Even breakers charge £100. I am planning to reuse as I'm sure it will tighten back up fine. Is that madness? Is there any way I can bench test the temperature sensor?

Sorry to state the obvious but it should be ok, it's only cosmetic by the looks of it. Just try it, you'll soon know if it's damaged.
