Audi A3 2.0 tdi broken engine

Hi,
My friends (girl) Audi A3 died, she called the green flag rescue as it wouldn't start. With some revving he got it started, but with white smoke. He turned off and towed to garage. The garage advised the injectors may be at fault and removed them, but they wanted an excessive fee for testing etc so I had her get it towed to my house. I've since looked at it and I found two parts (attached image) on the cylinder head where the injectors sit.
Is this a camshaft cup??
Would you expect the symptoms described with this fault? If not what are your thoughts on what is wrong?
How do I fit a new cup??
