I've got an issue with my old non-starting Celica (1990 GT4). It will turn over and either almost catch, or fire and then die very quickly. I've been working my way along the fuel system to try and find a resolution.

Voltmeter suggests that voltage is delivered to the pump, but then decays down to 0v pretty quickly, this could be I guess, wiring to the pump, some component in line that is breaking down under load, or even the ECU deciding to stop the fuel pump. It could also be the pump failing. I am really hoping the pump isn't going, as it's submerged into tank with no inspection port (tank'll have to come out).

Last weekend I got into engine bay and (after a lot of faff) managed to get the fuel line off the top of the fuel filter, I connected the motorbike engine directly to the fuel pump and hey presto fuel delivered to my drive ;o)

I reconnected the fuel pump to the car electrics and with the diagnostic port set to run the pump, turned on the ignition and once again fuel pumping onto drive.

I have preciously replaced the fuel pump resistor and relay, and now want to check the pressure of the fuel that is being delivered by the pump to rule out any problems along up until fuel being delivered to the fuel rail.

Having a look online it seems that a fuel injection testing kit is not super expensive so so I'm thinking to purchase (something like Clarke CHT713 from Machine Mart), my question (finally) is...

Is the kit likely to have a connector that will allow me to reconnect the fuel line (post fuel filter), but also attach the pressure gauge?

I understand that modern fuel injection systems have a schrader valve to attach to, but in my case all I have to start with is a 10mm banjo bolt for the fuel line.

As always...to the point fed up with posts like these.

Give us some history.

has the car ever ran ? has it ran recently ? was anything changed ? is there petrol in the tank ? etc etc etc etc etc etc.

You say the pump is running via the cars wiring, as you would expect ? ie key on it primes, and also runs whilst the engine is turning over ?

Does the engine have air ?

Does it have spark ?

It sounds like the pump is running...are you getting a signal to the injectors ? Can you pull the rail/injectors out of the manifold and crank the engine over to get a visual as to whetehr any fuel is spraying during cranking ?
Are the plugs wet or dry ?

All basic basic stuff to check first before throwing any money away on stupid stuff.
