Which badge do you most frequently see in your rear-view mirror just inches from your rear bumper?

In general I'm a fan of German cars but I have to say that it's most often an Audi (almost always an A3) or a cheaper Merc (A-Class, C-Class). BMWs are still up there as are VW Golfs.

Then there's Ford Transit vans who also tailgate far too often.

It really can vary, I try to ignore it, but most often the best technique is to slowly reduce your speed, it actually happened last night

50mph straight road, doing bang on 50, had this stty ford fiesta right on my back bumper, literally kissing it. So I slow down to 45mph and stick at that the whole length of the road (about 2 miles), even when he eventually got out of my boot.

We then got to a roundabout and if your going straight on it opens into two lanes, I knew what he was gonna do, straight into second lane and fly past me. So I stick in lane one but soon as exit roundabout I put foot down, leaving about a 200m gap between us, he then pulls back behind me know lane 1, I stuck to speed limit and a minute later he flew past at about 80.

Childish of me, but point proven. Very satisfying.

Do we really need a thread to discuss this? It's always a VAG car or sometimes an Insignia, which seems to be another car of choice for bell ends. I never had anyone tailgate me in the Range Rover, now I have a National Trust Burgundy Focus saloon it's like showing red rag to a bull, Dave from sales, in his shiny suit and pointy shoes is not going to have an OAP spec focus in front of him.

Brilliant lol, reminds me of that old BBC documenting about modern motoring, I watched it on YouTube last time it was posted.

What a fking grade A nob and I'm not talking about the fezza. He clearly wanted to go past and go at a faster speed than you so why act like a nob? Rather than "teach him a lesson" by playing games and provoking a reaction which causes people to do stupid things and end up crashing, why not just let him past and have him out of your hair? I really don't understand this mentality of acting as self-appointed road police; it rarely ends well and you will seriously seriously regret playing games if you do it that st to someone that's got a severe case of The Mental.

Lol, need help getting off your pedestal?

He was kissing my bumper on a road where no over taking is allowed, when I was doing the speed limit.

When it opened up to 2 lanes, I accelerated ahead up the hill until I got to the speed limit. He then past me when he managed to get well above speed limit.

I don't see problem. He's the one driving outside of the law, I'm just not going to allow anyone to bully me into doing same which is what he wanted when he was up my arse.

Very, very rare event for me. Though a VW Toerag was notably closer than I might have liked on Thursday.

I sometimes play these games as well. I know I'm being a dick but it keeps me vaguely amused on long journeys. Helps me deal with the inferiority I can't help feeling when I'm driving my 1.2 litre snotter Polo.

Always a fking golf gti or similar where I live, or varying age since 2000.

I do travel tgrough Bradford most days though so tailgating is the least of my worries

If you pair of morons are amused by this sort of thing you're on the wrong forums, you need www.pleasehelpmegrowup.com

The person behind might have been rushing to the hospital to see their child in intensive care - you don't know why people want to go faster than you so either get out of their way or do what you can to facilitate a reasonable passage for them.

What gets to me are the ones I see in front of me tailgating another car. They seem to be constantly on the brakes. WTF goes on inside their heads.

Contrary to common prejudices, BMWs and Audis are no worse for tailgating than any other make of car in my neck of the woods, except maybe Audi A3s. My experience suggests that SUVs in general are bad for it, particularly Nissan Qashqais, vans, the more powerful Golfs and, oddly, Citroen DS3s. Also, Minis, which seem to be driven aggressively by young women who think that tailgating is an all important component of maintaining the "in a rush" image that they think makes them look like they're dynamic professionals with important careers. Notable mentions also for VW Passatts, Vauxhall Insignias and people in traditionally non-aggressive cars who decide to tailgate me to give me a taste of my own medicine, even though they have no knowledge of how I drive.

Come off it. You know that's not the case in the vast majority of situations.
