Cabin Space - 1 series vs 3 series

Popped into local BMW dealer yesterday and sat in a few cars..

Am thinking of buying a new fun car that can do family duties if needed and the 140i is on my radar given how cheap it is..

Comparing the 1 series and 3 series from the drivers seat, the 1 series felt slightly less cramped.. 3 series feels really cramped..

Anyone else noticed this ?

I found it almost unbelievable that my F30 is physically bigger than my CRV yet has so much less internal space. It's the damn bonnet which seems to take up all the space.

My mate whos 6 ft 3 struggles in a 3 series he couldnt believe how much room was in the drivers seat of my old oner

Things must have changed!

I had an E46 Compact and replaced it with an E87 (facelift) 1 Series and the latter always seemed a bit cramped by comparison. It may have been due to the high waistline making the glass area smaller, and therefore the cabin darker.

Next generation 1 Series does seem much better though!
