Hoping someone can make a recommendation on a new waterproof.

I have a Goretex coat which folds up into one of its pockets, and a hood which folds into its collar. The coat is light and easy to carry, unfortunately it's now about 15 years old and the taped seams have started to crack and the Goretex is beginning to let in water. So I've been looking for a replacement - plenty about but none seem to have the features of my current coat.

Any ideas for a suitable replacement?

What do you want it for? Do you want another packable jacket? What budget?

Lots of options in that case, it would pay to look at TGO & Trail Magazine etc for group tests.

I need a new one too, I'm loking at Mountain Equipment Lhotse which is £300 ish, very highly rated though & a lot lighter than my old Berghaus one!

That doesn't look as though it's packable? Good coat though - I've a Mountain Equipment down jacket which is very good.

Not seen that many packable ones but you could buy a lightweight 'stuffsac' and keep that in the Jacket pocket and then fold/roll the Jacket up in to it.

Brand wise at your price range you want either Haglofs, Rab, or Mountain Equipment.

Have a look at the website 'sport pursuit' they do flash sales on big brands, had Mountain Hardwear jackets half price the other day.

Arcteryx are quite nice but can get pricey.

I was in the same situation as yourself last year, and after much browsing/buying/sending back I settled for the Keela Munro. It's easily the best waterproof jacket for walking on the moors/hill climbing I could find. Tried offerings from NF, Mammut, Berghaus, Sprayway, Arcteryx, Eider, etc. Best £138 I've spent for a while.

Is this packable - the website is not clear on that?

I've an Arcteryx Gamma MX hoody that I got at the beginning of the year. It's only a soft shell but it been put to work in some 'interesting' conditions, downpours, heavy cloud mist and howling winds, covered in crap and after a quick wipe it still looks brand new. It's surprisingly warm with a decent base layer and I've stayed dry.

It's a superb bit of kit and worth every penny. When I'm in the need for a new hard shell, I'd definitely put them top of the list of stuff to look at. Thinking of buying a thin mid-layer for £75 from them as I know it's top kit.

You ever thought about getting it retaped and reproofed? Works out cheaper than £250 (by some margin) and means you still have your coat.

Berghaus send all of their repairs here, for example... https://www.scottishmountaingear.com/tundra.asp

I recently went to the Berghaus outlet shop at McArthur Glen in Bridgend; came out with a £250 lightweight(ish) Goretex Pro jacket (marked down by £100). The one I got is rather heavier weight than it sounds like you're looking for (although it will roll into its own hood, at least) but if you're not too worried about "this year's colours" or the latest cuts/styles, then they had many, many, jackets of all sorts - well worth going out of your way (wherever your nearest outlet centre is) for.

Next trip, got a nice coat for daughter from HH, also just over £100 off and very good with it, too.

Oh it will, trust me!
It's a good site, daily flash sales, keep an eye on the daily emails and you can get all sorts of stuff half price.
Keep an eye out for when they have Rab, Mammut, Montane, Haglofs, Mountain Hardwear, Berghaus, Arcteryx and Outdoor Research flash sales.
You can snap up superb kit cheap as chips.

I'm a big fan of Paramo myself.
http://www.paramo-clothing.com/en-gb/explore-range...

Had a Alta II for several years and it's very good, just been replaced with the Alta III, my only complaint would be it can be too warm so I'm now using their Bentu windproof and fleece combo when its warmer.
If you really need packable look at their lightweight smocks thet pack very small.

No, I wouldn't say any of the top brands are packable in the sense they'll fold into one of their own pockets - if that's what you mean. Certainly the one I've recommended - whilst quite light - is not a lightweight summer jacket. If that's what you're absolutely definitely after you should focus more on summer jackets possibly.

Yes, it's a summer jacket I'm after. I've a Mountain Hardware jacket for winter (although that's also getting on a bit now and all these jackets to look at....)
