You're misunderstanding what "has no fuel" means. The OP has given an indication that the pump is running and from that we can probably assume fuel is getting to the fuel rail. That doesn't give us any indication of whether any is getting to the cylinders.

No need to get your hands dirty until you've eliminated the simple stuff. Just pulling the plugs on some modern stuff can take you a good while and for little gain.
What pointed you specifically towards cam sensor rather than crank sensor?

Could you perhaps think of any reasons that a code read might indicate a cam sensor even where it is not actually faulty? I can think of a few.

Some years ago in the early days of EOBD diagnostics I had a call from a garage that couldn't get an Escort Zetec running after a top end rebuild. A "top local diagnostic guy" had been out to it and diagnosed the cam position sensor. Many hours went into changing the sensor, then checking all the wiring, sending the ECU for testing etc. We recovered the vehicle in and in about an hour found the inlet cam in the exhaust and vice versa. Top diagnostic dude had only done a code read and come up with cam sensor signal issues, which in fairness it did have because there was nothing on the exhaust cam to give the sensor a pulse!
Always always check the basics first.
