Hi All,

Purchased a car from a dealer 2 days ago, yesterday I did notice that the clutch was very low and I had to lift 1mm of the clutch and it will drive off. This morning went to drive of and it wouldn't go in any gears at all, clutch pedal was at the bottom, called a mobile mechanic who diagnostic was that it's either the master or slave cylinder. The dealer has agreed to pay for changing the parts however he didn't want me to do it as he will need his mechanic to see the car and change the parts, fair enough. Now if the problem is the slave cylinder I understand that the gearbox needs to come of and once you do change it you need to put in a new clutch kit as the seals will be gone on the old one, is that true? What I don't want is the dealer changing just the slave cylinder and then putting back the old clutch, if it's possible?

The car itself is a insignia 2013 120.000 miles.

Technically, you don't HAVE to change the clutch if it isn't contaminated, however general wisdom is if you remove the gearbox, you change the clutch rather than have to get it off again in a week/month/year to change the clutch.
