Anyone know what sort of money it is for the different things at a machine shop. Like a rebore a hone head skimmed etc. I'm trying to work out machine costs for a home build project. Thanks.

I'm sure it'll vary but as a ballpark you might pay £20 - £30 per cylinder for a rebore, maybe double that to skim a head.

I recently paid £40 to have my Xflow head skimmed. They also went right through the head, cleaned everything up, pressure tested, reseated the valves, new valve stem seals and rebuilt. Total Cost was around £120. Obviously the Xflow is a pushrod(no cam in the cyl head), 8 valve engine so less man hours involved than a 24v 6 cylinder twin cam cylinder head.

Wow thanks, I thought it would of been more than that. £100ish for rebore and £50ish for head skim.

Wow. Better off asking for a good machine shop in your area. Then pick up the phone and ask!

You don't even say what engine.

Thank you greenv8s and adamindy. very useful. Just what car forums for people that want to ask stuff on car forums are for on forums. I think.

Your always better finding a machine shop that others have used and can trust rather than the cheapest. Saying that I'm sure every machine shop has a few horror stories against them.

The ONLY way you're going to find out for certain is to find a 'machine shop' in your area & go and ask them how much they'd charge for what you have in mind.
You'd be much better posting your location and asking if anyone knows one in the area they'd be prepared to recommend.
