Have asked this question elsewhere but not getting a response. Assuming no nasties are found on strip down, what as a ballpark figure would you expect a rebuild of a 3.5l Rover V8 engine to cost, nothing too wild but maybe with a bit of balancing and blueprinting to liberate a horse or two?

Find a piece of string, measure it and multiply it by 3, then stick a pound sign in front of it.

Really..."blueprinting and balancing" will gain you nothing.

If you want more power just ensure all parts are in good order, CR is sensible for your needs, if you want more power get a better cam and heads. Obviously supporting external mods will need to accommodate any internals and then of course have it tuned correctly.

But cost....will vary wildly.

I thought balancing a V8 upon rebuilding was a basic cornerstone of doing it right but agree that cams and heads will give the biggest bang per buck in HP terms.

Have a look at specialist sites like
RPi
Rimmer
John Eales etc.
RPi has general info sections and not just a rebuilder/parts site.

And what have you done that caused it to become unbalanced in the first place ?
