A Rover T16 will do 500BHP with new internals. I'm not sure how long it'd last though. Same again, one of my Engine Managment books features a 2.0 Zetec putting out 600BHP when turbocharged.... What about a Volvo engine, lots of those turbo/or are turbocharged very well.....

You should look at some of the modern alloy V6`s (keep it true to the original) and slap on a Lysholm screw compressor........... Sorry I have not got any particular recommendations.

sorry but 2L kicking out massive BHP just doesn't float my boat - Lag central and probably achieved on race fuel anyway. Ally v6 would be good.

you can get 500 with sul. but if u run them on race fuel with a 2.3 stroker kit you can push 800bhp+ now that has a bit of lag but fun on 1/4 mile runs.

Either I would think. 12 valve I suppose a bit simpler but I have owned both and the engines were fantastic. My 12 valve had over 170000 on the clock when I got rid of it. The engine was still going like a train. Rest of the car had fallen to bits though!

Really cheap n/a, like £500 for a used engine or several thousand pounds for something rebuilt and blown. Boosted.

How much casnh you got? an LS7 would be perfect for this i reckon- light small and buckets of power all over the place. you could get the same figures from a light pres. charged LS1 too- for that kind of power you are almost just bolt on and go for a supercharger- LS7 might work out cheaper though - an LS6 would possibly get you there with the right heads and cam although it might not be particularily driveable. how much does a stratos weigh anyway? Gardner Douglas kit cars do a Lola T70 replica which weighs a pretty awe inspiring 800kg and takes an LSx quite happily- hmmm 625bhp/ton. That must be the sort of figure you will end up?

The OP wanted a transverse gearbox arrangement and that stuff is heavy for the lsx engines. I was thinking he could consider a cosworth v6 but the blocks iron. If that's to expensive then the lsx is out of his price band. Not sure what cheap alloy v6's are available, mondeo maybe? Boosted.

Cadillac Northstar could be an option for a V8. Going to cost though.

Alfa v6, get a 12valve from a 164, cheap as chips, well strong and ideal for forced induction. not far off 300bhp should be attainable from a late spec 3.2 24valve., but not very cheap. glorious sound though Mark

LewisK said: What about a Volvo engine, lots of those turbo/or are turbocharged very well..... 2.5 i5 turbo will do big power easily and is natively fwd. Apparently the D5 block is the same as the Audi WR i5 turbo block, so could mate the two and have a transverse i5 turbo that way.
