From the short drive i have done, on the road, if you want to be "on it", then you definately need to be above 3500RPM. Its missing of this graph, but the power only drops off about 50BHP from the peak at 6500 rpm. So a good compromise change point will be about 6200rpm...
This makes the change 1-2 3700rpm 2-3 4000rpm, 3-4 4500rpm & 4-5 4900 rpm..

The ratios are OK for now. 1st is pretty useless though, so I could do with a close ratio gear set, which is available, but i would need a custom final drive making.... Somthing for the future maybe?

On a seperate topic, I have covered just 600miles and the clutched pulley on the alternator is not good anymoresmile Normal driving is fine, but rapid accelleration sees the pulley freewheeling and not biting again, acompanied with some nasty screeching/clicking sounds when it does finally engage. Its done this before, but now its bad enough for the alternator light to come on.....

The question is can I just use a normal pulley without any major issues. The alternator is the only thing driven by the belt and there is no tensioner......

You need to get on the PPC Forum and ask TTW. He's the resident MR2 guru. yes

The clutch is really for belt life rather than any protection of the alternator itself. Fit a fixed pulley!

I am away at work this week, but will have a look at finding a fixed pulley. I need to change the pulley anyway, as I have noticed that the crank pulley and alternator pulley have different grooves & the alternator pulley has nearly cut through the belt after obly 700 miles!

Been for a suspension set up today & did the corner weights at the same time, so I finally have a weight for the completed car.

LF 217kg RF 218kg
LR 315kg RR 318kg

So the total weight of the car is 1068kg which means I managed not only 500BHP but 500BHP/ton smile

I think that after 6.5 years it is just about the end of this thread, maybe some news from the track day & thats about it unless i find something else to add next year.....

How about some mild anti lag or I have been told about a boost builder that sounded interesting!

Apart form looking like a blind monkey has welded it...

...sounds interesting.

I thought you were on about a dual purpose compressor. Belt driven until the exhaust takes over. Similar to the weird Mazda Comprex supercharging/turbo diesel-me-bob.

It runs off the belt at low rpm giving a nice progressive supercharger boost through the rev' range until the exhaust takes over and boost levels go up giving it a Mr Hyde kick in the tyres. So a nice low output for the road and power when you need it.

It is like the one in the link I posted!

The one pictured is a prototype and is missing the external skin. The final version looks much better - externally anyway. I just sneaked a look at it smile

I was having a good look at the "rocket" installation on a scooby and I just dont have the space to fit one before the turbo unless I re do the whole thing frown plus there are various other bits that are needed, so I think it will have to be the normal antilag if i go for something....

Yeah it's a big task unless you have a wrc parts bin handy.

If you want instant boost from idle to the red line stick a supercharger on to of the engine and run it compound. smile
