Now you just need someone here to tune it....

It's all great how they perform on paper, but they still need someone competent to set the thing up.

Is there someone in the UK that can do that ?

IMO go Syvecs

I did seriously look at Syvecs, but wasnt impressed with the customer service I got from Syvecs themselves, basically as I never got any... no reply to email, & no returned calls & having had the same problem with HAltech, it put me off somewhat.

Also poor communication with the tuner. Maybe I was just unlucky or he didnt think i was serious, either way I discounted using syvecs.

I have someone lined up for tuning the AEM.
I did a lot of investigation, before finaly deciding on who to go with for the tuning, hopefully this time I picked right.
We discussed what I wanted & what control was required to get a good calibration & looked at using the haltech, but it came up short in many ways. We discussed various other ECU's & ended up with either Pectel or AEM,as two options that do so much more than the haltech, control wise and in general, as well as being what he was happy to tune. Pectel is out of my league, so AEM it is.....

I mailed support @syvecs a couple of times listing the engine i have and required inputs/outputs & asking which ECU i would need, as well as what functions i was looking for.... this was around 6 months ago, probably from my work email, so maybe it was treated as spam..
The tuner was closer to me & did respond once, then nothing further.

Interesting quote from the Infinity site
All Infinity ECU’s come fully enabled without the need for feature add-on purchases for a limited time
How much extra does the likes of traction control cost then ? As I see it's listed as part of the "advanced tuning package" that is a cost extra ?

And as far as I understand, the Syvecs will do pretty much anything the Pectel will, but is more keenly priced.

Plus they have this little display setup via bluetooth. Cheap display with any tablet/smartphone

I was told that all the 8-10& 12 ecu's are fully loaded, with nothing additional to buy, so all have traction control, drive by wire etc. Even the cuut down 6 & 8H ecu will do both although the traction control only has nputs for 2 wheel speed sensors.
Maybe we are still within the "limited time" or they have decided to keep the advanced features as standard.

I got told about a really good company in Notts for ECU mapping, can't remember the name, but surely you'll know about and have considered them?

Strange you're lowering the CR, what is the theory behind that and from what to what? Most people are going the other way these days....

I think In some ways I am still old school when it comes to CR. My 12V Turbo engine has 7.5:1, so to go to 8.5:1 was a big step up for me..

For this engine I had aimed for 8.4 or 8.5 CR, when I checked propperly with a burette, (previous checks were with a small syringe filled multiple times, so prone to error), the Actual CR I had was slightly over 8.6.
As I needed a new set of pistons, I decided to adjust them to be in line with the origional target CR. The 3cc change + a head skim will do this.

Well Back home again & the new pistons were here waiting for me smile

With them being slightly lower compression I had expected them to weigh less, but they actually weigh a few grams more, so instead of having to have the whole assembly ballanced again, I will just be having the new pistons matched to the old piston weight. It should be possible by coneing the ends of the gudgeon pins.

The heads have been skimmed, but still waiting on the liners to be done..... 3 monthe is just not long enough to get some things done!

I might be getting a lone of the tool to do the liners, as the guy seems a bit swamped at present, which is good as it will save some money, but I would have prefered to have the parts ready for me as promised!

Lots of other mods coming together, so steady progress in some areas.. New fuel tank has been test fitted (to make sure i could get it in and out) before final welding, so that will be done this week..

Final part for gear lever I made at work, so a little welding and then all the alloy bits can go for anodizing, new cables on order.

Front anti Roll bar in progress of being installed, trigger wheels for traction control measured up and ordered....

How long has Kev had his E-Type and supercharged XJ8 engine now?

PPC was ten a couple of months ago and he had the Jag long before that. wink

We'll I picked up the heads and was given a contact for grooving the liners - he has them now and should have them done within the next few days which is pretty good!

As long as they all weigh the same leave them alone. The engine doesn't care what the piston weight is to within a few grams.

I can see that being true for a 4pot or some v engines, but does it hold true for the alfa V6 with its offset journal crank?

With my scales the piston assembly is 6 or 7g heavier, so possibly a 1g difference between pistons. the last onew were matched to within 0.1g

If you can easily remove the weight, I can see no harm in doing it. Whether from under the skirt, or inside the pin, it really shouldnt take very much to get it down ?

Yes. Stop fking about and don't argue with an engine building god.
