is there no reason why i can't tap my oil filler cap(large screw on type) and use it to return the oil back into the engine rather than tapping my sump as boy would it make life easier other than that i'll use the sump plug hole with a pipe fitting any thoughts

You want your oil return as low as possible below the level of the turbo to help oil leave the turbo easily so not to interfere with flow and cause potential back pressure on the turbo seals.

Tapping a hole in the sump is easy, did it to my car to fit a turbo. Remember the oil drain is just that it needs gravity to drain.

the turbo drain point MUST be lower then the turbo bearings, otherwise oil will back-up against the turbo seals and you will experience a great deal of burnt oil vapour in both the compressor and turbine housings, therefore high oil consumption.......for god sake dont do it.....drill and tap or weld something to the sump pan, I too dont like drilling into blocks if it can be avoided......have you thought about using the sump plug?

If it is a gravity drain, then the drain must be lower than the turbo itself obviously, but the return to the engine MUST also be above the level of oil in the sump.
If it isnt, you can get oil backing up.

If you are using a scavenge pump due to a very low mounted turbo and gravity drain is impossible, then you can return pretty much anywhere you like.

I would drill and tap the sump. It isn't that big a deal. With a turbo drain you want to go for the biggest tube available rather than just using the bare minimum, it helps keep oil out of the induction system.
