Graunchy gearchange on a new Vectra C Diesel
Discussion
Calling any Vauxhall techies out there or any owners who have experienced this problem
Before Xmas, I bought myself a new Vectra "C" Estate, the 150ps 1.9 CDTi Diesel. It has the F40 6 speed gearbox.
Since day one until now (some 2200 miles), changing from 1st to 2nd gear can be difficult. When the engine and 'box are cold, it is difficult to engage. When they are worm, I can get a smooth gearchange if I change gear slowly with a definate pause in neutral Otherwise, I get a baulking of the gears and a slight graunch - just like when you clip them if your are being lazy with the clutch. Changing down from any higher gear to 2nd is far easier. Seems like baulk ring/synchro problem to me. The problem has eased slightly as things have bedded in, but the rest of the box operates far sweeter!
Can anyone advise me if this is a common problem, if it can be fixed easily or if there is a GM mod/service note which suggests a remedy. Does this problem eventually go away with use? If memory serves, one fix GM used was to drain the existing oil off and refull with ATF, Dexron 2 or suchlike. My dealer so far has said that there is no common problem or mod - but I am suspicious.
Any help or comment greatly appreciated. Cheers.
