Alternator Upgrade - Upgrading the wiring too?
Discussion
Hi all
I just received an 80amp alternator which has the nornal (lucas type) 3 spade plug fitting
(which is all my faulty Lucas 101 had) plus it has a terminal (and
adjoining spade) marked `B+` and another marked `W`. My existing wiring
uses all 3 spades for the `3 spade plug` fitting - I am concerned that
I should upgrade the wiring to be safe - I have some 42amp cable -
should I run it directly from the `B+` post to the battery `+` to help share the load with the exisisting wiring ?
I've spent the last hour searching but can't see an answer anywhere.
thanks
Mark

When the alternator is spinning, ideally, you want it to power the car, and wire it as such.
Any excess, will charge the battery.
It is common for people to "hot-wire" heavy load items directly to the alternator for this reason.
ie, fuel pumps, fans etc.
Depends how the car is originally wired as to where you may see a benefit by upgrading.
