A freind of a freind has an old pajero for sale 2.8 on an m plate short wheel base any way i need this car for towing a horse trailer but it has a 3 speed auto box with overdrive! Will this be any good for towing or would i be better off with a manual?

It will be fantastic for towing, only trouble with the SWB version is if you have too much nose weight on the tow bar the front end gets very light.

Just make sure it has new fluid and possibly filter in the box (some didnt have the filter) and it will tow all day long.

No worries. Had mine for 2 years as a daily driver and the only thing to fail in that time was the power steering pump. Just dont expect great fuel economy....

I miss my Shogun... had a 2.8TD GLS LWB.
Gearbox is great. Towed mates cars when they broke down using a metal tow bar.. and it hardly made a difference to the drive.

Diesel consumption isnt too great, but its not too bad.

We ran ours to 180k miles before selling it. Only things ever to go wrong were (in order of occurance)

alternator (at a couple of years old, but that was a design fault - replacement alt never failed)
top radiator hose @ 150k miles? - easy £15 replacement using original part
waterpump had started to go - was dripping water onto the undertray. Still ran fine. Told the guy who bought it about the water pump, and even got him a quote for £200 to get it replaced.

Great vehicle!
