Hi,
My Citroen AX (a 1.0 fuel injected model) has started to cut out more frequently when idling, I think it could be the idle speed unit but am open to suggestions. Also it sometimes takes a bit of cranking to start after being left for a few hours, this is generally an overnight thing rather than when I try to drive home from work - this lead me to wonder about the health in-tank fuel pump.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions from PH'ers (besides destruction or sale of the car!)

cheers 100SRV

I replaced the ignition pack on Friday when it absolutely wouldn't start, there was no spark. The car behaved itself for an hour then went on strike by refusing to re-start after being left for quarter of an hour. It restarted in the usual manner - a few attempts and a good result. I did a bit more investigating this morning and it looks as though the crank position sensor (which is used by ignition and fuel injection) is failing. When the lead from it is wiggled the resistance across pins 1 and 2 of it's connector varies from open circuit to very high resistance. Common value measured are 470 to 2000 Ohms.

I have ordered a replacement.

ETA
Fitted replacement crank position sensor this evening, £49. Just my luck to find it on the internet for £12 this morning! The car has had four good starts so I'm going to give it an opportunity to let me down tonight!

I'd guess that at 93000 miles a lot of complicated parts are getting close to the wrong end of the bathtub curve by now, I wonder what will fail next?
