Just had an MOT done and has emmisions results as follows and am hoping somebody will be able to help me on here as am a little worried at teh results produced by the engine. Originally the car failed with a fast idle result of 0.5% (limit 0.3%)

Fast idle test
CO @0.2% (limit 0.3%)
HC @58ppm (Limit 200ppm)
Lambda @1.0 (Limit 1.03)

Natural idle test
CO @0.49 (limit 0.5)

Has only done just over 88000 and CO and Lambda are very high. Any ideas? Am I looking at adjustment, dodgy sensors, or an engine on the way out? Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

No1 suspect on one of these engines will be the Lambda probe(good chance its original)dont fit a cheap universal get an OE quality one from NGK/NTK from someone like http://www.scmf.co.uk/home.asp get your one tested 1st though because its expensive if diagnosed incorrectlywink but it certainly looks to be the case judging by those results.

Cheers. Was thinking along the same lines. Been to main dealer and said nothing wrong I must be making it up.

Car has been running a bit rough. Erattic engine speed under light load (1st gear RPM would fluctuate by 500 without moving throttle on a flat road. Would idle steady.) and poor fuel consumption. Poor emissions at another garage stated the finger pointing.

Lambda sensor in the region of £100 from Toyota though. Is it a DIY job? I haven't even looked under the bonnet yet to find it for myself though.

4AFE engine will likely have the expensive 02 sensor and you absolutely cannot replace it with the universal type as the signal outputs are not alike.

Cheapest place i got one from was Partco- blue print part but genuine Nippon Denso/ Toyota branded sensor in the box.
Blue Print Part number was: ADT 37002.
ND/Toyota part number was: 89463-20070.

Over £300 from toyota but *just* eek , £267 from Partco.

Have a look on the O2 sensor body and get the part number off it is the easiest, or take the chassis number in to a toyota dealers and theyll tell you what its got. smile
