Hi, I'm interested in learning more about vehicle systems, and have been looking around for an OBD reader. There seems to be a fair bit of choice, either self contained units or sw for a laptop. Ideally I'd like something that will provide live data, and work on an 02 BMW 325 and a 99 Ford Ka. Apparently older Fords do support OBD, it certainly has what looks like an ODB socket. Any suggestions/info would be great.

For those like me who are fairly new to this, here's an article which explains the basics and has links to a couple of suppliers:

If you've got a laptop the ELM327 interface and software which is available on Ebay is a very popular choice.

Also check out the hand held U581, do a search on google or Ebay, bought this one myself from Ebay.
