Don't waste your time at a dealer. Go to an indie who is going to spend more than ten minutes plugging a computer in just to tell you 'there's no fault code mate'.

As stated very clearly before, most main dealers are complete numpties, who only carry out servicing.

Anything more involved than an oil change, and most will sit and stare at your car blindly.....and still charge you £100 per hour.

Find any competent mechanic who has half a brain to diagnose faults....and then let them work at it.

Just get another ECU. You reset the ECU and all is well for a bit then it goes gaga again. If it were water in the fuel, dirty fuel filter, temp guage, Lambda Sensor it wouldn't matter if you reset the ECU as it would just do the same almost straight away, and more than likely throw up a CEL error so doesn't sound like it's any of those.

Another issue could be MAF sensor, they can be tempremental and even after a reset can work fine for a little bit then throw a wobbler. Faulty MAF can cause other CEL errors like misfire code to show.

You've already mentioned people are having issues getting to the ECU's probramming.diagnostics, remapping etc... In which case it sounds like you have a faulty ECU or maybe wiring loom issue. Easiest job to do is ECU change!! You should be able to find one from a scrappies but you may have to get your immobiliser key synchronised up to the ECU before it will run. If after that it still does it's dodgy thing then torch it, claim the insurance and don't get another frenchy with the payout!! biggrin

Better still spend some money as has been suggested already and get a reputable garage to look at it.

A lot of modern cars you cannot just simply change ecu's at random. Many are coded to the car, and a PITA to change requiring dealer programming....which can often be a nightmare itself, as they dont always know how to work their equipment.

And in some cases, if you get a second hand ECU, get the ignition key as well if you're going down that route.
