Why on earth would anyone dick about destroying the alloy when 15 minutes with a welder will have you all 5 nuts out and a wheel in perfect condition?

Not a clue, but it must be a strange thought process! Like you say, welding a wheel nut is not going to cause tyres to explode; the demo in that video has the rim of the wheel being welded, not the centre.

If you are super cautious you could do this, but it won't explode anyway. The amount of heat being pumped into a wheel with red hot disc brakes glowing away behind it is vastly more than 10 seconds of welding a wheel nut is going to provide, and yet tyres on track and rally cars somehow manage not to explode the second the car stops in the pits/service area.Gassing Station | Engines & Drivetrain | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
