Hello all,
I'm new to this forum malarkey so please go easy on me and excuse me if I use the wrong smiley face or whatever. I actually acquired my Monaro CV8 last year, and checked out the forum before I did so searching for buying tips, but one thing and another, including the arrival of my first child earlier this year, stopped me from actually getting around to joining up til now.
Anyway, enough about me. The car. It's a 2005 Monaro CV8 (the 350bhp model) in red, with just over 50,000 miles on the clock. Totally standard at present (although that may change). I'm really pleased with it. I think red suits the car well (I like the way the rear light clusters blend into the sides of the car) and for me it had to be the 2005 model, as you gotta love those bonnet vents for the real muscle car look.
I did consider saving up the extra pennies for a VXR, but ultimately the slightly more subtle look of the 2005 CV8 was more to my taste (and my wife's, as it is our family wheels, baby seat and all). I love the look of the 2005 GTO in the states (although not its weirdly small standard wheels) and I guess the 2005 CV8 is the closest approximation of that. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate the choice of VXR owners. History suggests that the most extreme models of muscle cars hold their value the best - any original VXR500 owners are onto a winner I imagine.
I've had a couple of V8s in the past - a Rover SD1 3500 that had the sound but not the performance and an Audi A8 4.2 that had the cubic inches but was really just a big auto luxo-barge). The Monaro finally ticks all the boxes I'd been trying to tick with reasonable(ish) dimensions, muscle car looks and a manual shift, although it is perhaps a tiny bit quiet as standard.
Anyway, I've recently had the car serviced (just took it somewhat reluctantly to Peter Vardy Vauxhall, as Monkfish is a bit far from Edinburgh) and there are one or two minor things to sort before I start considering things like an exhaust or whatever. Those issues can wait til another post, however.
In the meantime, hi!

Welcome to the exclusive club of 133, 05 Monaro CV8s, less the ones already forcibly retired. Keep it stock accept the gearing and exhaust. Re gearing change the gearbox from the MM6 to an M12 or diff from 3.46 to 3.9. Re the exhaust just remove the middle boxes. Enjoy your muscle motoring.

Thanks guys. I guess you know what a red CV8 looks like, but here's a photo of another one... One of the 34! You don't get that kind of exclusivity with a 3 series. Will take some more artfully composed shots at some point. You know, those moody car ad style ones from the front quarter with the front wheels turned in.
