I'm after some ideas of what fits and looks good in the Monaro dashboard, if anyone has any pics? I'm fed up of my broken head unit!
Also what looks 'stock' would be good.
Thanks
Mark

I have a Double DIN (JVC Exad) Unit fitted into my Monaro, it has a custom made plastic infill surround (from the US) fitted, it is a perfect fit and looks original.
I will get some pictures of it if you are interested
I also have all the speakers/tweeters changed to Infinity Kappa units, all the door/boot internals have been professionally covered with sound deadening high frequency foam....the sound reproduction in the car is of a very high standard!

I forgot about the steering controls. I don't want to lose those! Its a Pioneer AVH-2400BT, does the job fine. Had to get the steering wheel controls from USA and basically made sure that they were compatible before i got the head unit. Took about 2 hours to fit the head unit and about half hour to wire the steering wheel controls. Did the head unit before the controls arrived couldn't wait. Any other problems feel free to ask.

That looks really good - and stock. Nicely integrated. As you may know by now, I'm a big fan of 'working your nads off to make it look like you haven't actually done anything' Good job

I have never claimed to be a perfectionist but fitting this unit was quick, with cheap surround from EBay. Original desire was to find something with ipod connectivity RDS radio, got this unit of ebay too. Its a Kenwood DNX9240. SatNav was a nice bonus. Havent rewired the steering wheel control, as it is a touch screen, so not too bad. Also came with a remote, but that usually just sits in the centre console storage.

A finishing touch may be a Monaro badge above the Stereo on the Surround? Would finish it off perfectly I reckon

For steering wheel control interface, get yourself a 'Swi-Alp' or sometimes called a Swi-jack, made by Pacific Accessory corp'. Compatible with most modern head units and Manufacturers steering wheel controls! Cheap and easy to install (works fine with my JVC double DIN) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PAC-SWI-JACK-Steering-Wh...

[quote=fildigger]As promised....pictures of my double DIN fitment and more importantly the pukka surround, perfect colour match and grain to plastic and with nice bevelled edges.. That surround looks much better than the one I got. Where did you get it from? Cheers

(I would have to get back in touch with Swordfish coupe to be 100% of where he sourced the surround...he moved on to a Jag' a few years ago and no longer frequents this forum!) 'tis a real quality piece of trim, others i've looked at are sub-standard by comparison!

I'm fed up with the standard stereo in the 'Ro so have just bought a cheap Kenwood double din stereo and surround to have a play to see how well I can get it all to fit. Will also be looking into one of those PAC units to get the stearing wheel controls working - if all goes well should be able to do the upgrade for just over £100. If it looks / sounds good then I might consider putting a bit more money in and getting the next Kenwood model up, as I notice this has a multi-colour display, with a couple of green settings that should match in with the rest of the dash pretty well. However I'll try and get a pic of the initial set up later this week to show you how it looks when done on the cheap

So am I right in thinking then that you can change the Head Unit and the rear amp will still work?
Just plug and play so to speak.
Just had an e-mail through from Halfords who are doing a DAB/CD/Iphone-Ipod compatible JVC Unit with multiple illumination for £186 !
Might be worth a play for that kind of money, also say's its OEM steering wheel control ready altho the unit itself is remote as well.
