I'm after picking your collective brains What I have: 2005 VXR Monaro which is running as you know a forged engine with a twin turbo setup. It's making reasonable power 600ish at the flywheel (guestimate based on an engine dyno of 630bhp). There is a re-worked gearbox in the pipeline which will be CV8 'box with a modified 5/6th to give me a usable 6th gear. This was evidenced by the fact I'd run out of revs in 5th by the 3/4 mile marker at T/R. Currently the redline is set at 6300 which isn't helping but with longevity in mind it's set sensibly (much to my distaste but Roger knows what he's doing). The next power step would be to change the manifolds and fit a boost controller which is a bit of an unknown and only a best guess as to the cause of no extra power regardless of upping the boost. The Goal: initially to crack 200 and ultimately do it in a mile So having gone a GPS verified 183mph in 6th with what felt like a lot more to give, my mind in turning to aero mods to give her an easier time getting to the magic 200. The questions I have are: 1) can the VXR8 under body aero kit be made to fit a Manaro? 2) I know 007 has had custom under body stuff done but doing it in carbon for my needs is OTT. Anyone know if these were blue printed from another kit? 3) would a front splitter be beneficial and would this undermine any underbody aero work? 4) Anything I've missed? Probably should add I'll be changing the wheels to OZ ultraleggeras soon I'm opened minded on budget but given my other planned mods I wouldn't want to spend more than 5k without very quantifiable gains otherwise I may as well just throw more horse power at it...!

Take your door mirrors and rear spoiler off, and tape up the holes.

Have a look at the underside and get something made. I don't think there'll be any similarities with the floor plan and the 5 piece kit I've got. From the limited reading I've done a Splitter will be beneficial with a flat under tray and of course losing the spoiler or flattening it off. Mirrors can have a massive effect on drag over 150 too. Maybe make them removable? (same with the wipers) Having said all that the Aero mods will be the icing - you need to get the cake mixture right first - and that's 1) Power and 2) Gearing. Have fun

Aero can be tricky. Modern cars will have a lot of wind tunnel testing done to ensure they are safe at speed. IMO DIY messing with that can sometimes produce bad results. Stick with simple lowering, ensure the front is slightly lower than the rear, and other than that dont go crazy unless you are very sure what you are doing wont have an adverse effect. A Monaro is already an aerodynamic platform that should have no difficulty achieving 200+ with some power, and IMO should be stable even at those speeds. It may seem obvious that a flat underside will help, maybe a small rear spoiler, or front splitter. But their real effects at speed are a little unknown unless someone has already tested them and they are proven to help, and most importantly still be safe. Taping up panel gaps, removing mirrors etc I guess can help. I wouldnt be bothered with all that s t though. Just make it achieve the speed as it is driven on the road.. Covering them in sticky tape just makes them look ridiculous.

Jez wanna split the cost of hiring a wind tunnel and doing some aero R&D? Alternatively we could get Paul a jumbo pack of sausages

I thought you had a darton block Emma? Thats a lot of engine for not much power..!? Is it detuned for a reason?
What displacement?
Thats the same output as my NA engine at present. You will need way more power to hit 200 in the mile.

Whatever mods you decide to do, keep them simple. Getting adventurous will carry bigger risks than leaving things alone. Maybe some simple alloy splitters like this....seems to work for it ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-jdEj5eMcMIMO if you want to go faster in a mile, just make more power. It's fully tried and tested and it works every time.
