Big Power Meet 2013, Vasteras, Sweden 4-6 July
Discussion
Ok, Im going to book the chunnel and accommodation up there this week.
The last link I posted showed roughly the stop for each day.
Coming back we may be a bit more flexi and perhaps drive a bit further and see if we can get back in 2 days...
GSD has been in touch, just waiting to hear back on logistics etc. Will probably take an early train from Dover around 8am Monday. Final rental deposit is also due this week.
So Ill be letting those who wish to attend know where to send cash
Anyone wanting to come last minute should be no problem, but you might need to organise your own accommodation & logistics for the trip up. I think we will have space in the house at the show. We will of course be happy to collect stragglers along the way.

Ok booked the following; (based on the draft route a couple of posts up)
Channel tunnel early AM monday 1st.
Vasteras accommodation is €800 for the week plus some £60 cleaning fee or some such.
So we will split this amongst the attendees who can just pay me in Euro
Rieste, Germany 1st July
Malmo, Sweden 2nd July
Vasteras 3rd July->6 July
Malmo, Sweden 6th July,
Leaving the sunday unbooked at present, I think we will discuss and figure out where we want to stay based on travel progression etc over the week. Sunday PM shouldnt be too busy for accomodation (hopefully!)

Not to bug in or anything, but the road over Motala and Kumla is in pretty poor shape and heavily used by lorries, or at least was when I drove there last summer. I would opt for Norrkoping to Katrineholm to Kungsör to Eskilstuna to Västerås, or better yet, take the motorway to Södertälje and from there the motorway to Eskilstuna and on to Västerås, it adds some 60-70 miles to the trip though, but is a much better road.
Generally the smaller roads are in bad condition, full of grooves and potholes, especially after the hard winter we've had.
Not too keen on motorways unless they are nice and scenic?Generally the smaller roads are in bad condition, full of grooves and potholes, especially after the hard winter we've had.

The only part of the E4 that is scenic is in Jönköping, the most dull part is probably the part between Helsingborg and Jönköping. The road over Motala is quite scenic, just in poor condition and heavily used by HGVs, having said that, it may have been resurfaced since I drove there.Finlandia said:

I've been to Jonkoping. (Pronouncing the J as a Y and the k as sh, and the o as "er" Yernsherping!!!!) Nice place. I went in 2001 when Sven Goran Erikson was England manager. We were in a bar on the lake front (Jonkoping) when England thrashed the Germans 5-1 (Yes we actually won a game with him!). All the Swedes were cheering, the bar was packed. Wonder why?
And now you're visiting Västerås, say after me, West-er-ass. Jönköping and Huskvarna are beautiful and very nicely located by the lake Vättern.
If you have time, stop by Gränna and buy some polkagrisar, you won't be disappointed. Apart from that, watch out for potholes, and no need to worry about scameras (they are front facing and the driver must be identified from the photo).
Indeed, Gurmeet has no tread left. Ive been careful and only lost a few mil.
Gareth only broke 150mph a few times and Mr G swears he did only once. I recall mine shifting into 4th at 120mph at 6500rpm whilst concentrating on a lane change and overtake.
As for Vasteras Ive never seen so much American Muscle ever before. The whole town is litterally rammed. Traffic jams everywhere, all with big blocks, small blocks and every manner and age of car from the US. Tens of thousands.. Only a fraction go to the actual show grounds, the rest block all the streets and car parks throughout.
Crazy stuff.
We got some walky talkies in Sweden at a tech mall. Well worth it.

Looks awesome. Have fun guys WOW! What a ride!!! That was Petrolhead Nirvana. Just recovering after a 17 hour trip home from Malmo.
More descriptions and photos later. Richard got pulled in by customs and missed our boat home, don't know whether they let hime go yet, and poor old GSD must be knackered from keeping up.
I think we will all be going back.
The cars created a lot of attention and G's Ro is being featured in a Swedish magazine, with a theme going like: "The car GM didn't send to Sweden". Everyone loved the noise with frequent requests for more throttle.
We got friendly with two guys who had Odyssey GTO's and one guy with a white G8.
