I saw this on the programme too and it looked pretty interesting. On the subject of coolant and temperature, where's the normal gauge position for a VXR8? Mine just sits under a quarter normal and slightly over a quarter when stationary.

The lack of pressure in the system seems a good idea to me. Less chance of failure of pipes and failure will result in slow loss of coolant. Surely a better idea.

It is a better idea on many counts, just the price will put many off

Due to it's thicker nature too, there is less chance of cavitation at the pump at high rpm as can happen with water. Although that would apply more to cars that see sustained high rpm

Makes sense. Maybe once I'm done playing. I'm likely to have the radiator out a good few time in the coming months.

I've used it in a couple of my previous project cars. I was aware that I needed to check that the water pump was good as it is a more viscous liquid especially when cold. I initially used it to cure a localised boiling issue in a turbo car which worked very well.

I noticed the engine bay was more calm after hard runs where before there was obvious tinking and coolant settling. So I used it again in a kit car project. After a dyno run I could remove the cap to check the fuid level with the merest of hisses from the low pressure generated. No reason normal water/coolant wouldn't have worked as well but I liked how the Evans coolant worked.

As for longevity I have the coolant from my kit car in store ready to go in my LS1 setup when I stop tinkering with the damn thing!

Thought I would just stick a note down on what my friend has found with the water wetter.

Over 1k miles an average 8 degrees lower temps in the chargecooler (this is the coolant temp not inlet air temps) engine temps have been 5 degrees lower although this is hovering close to the thermostat opening temp so will be controlled by that, one other thing he said (although hasn't logged) is that the car appears to get up to temp quicker than before.

All these results are on a focus Rs (same as mine) with a stock charge cooler system (my one has a bigger rad) & runs 22 psi boost.

I've ordered some today smile

By sheer coincidence, Evans have a couple of Stands at the Classic Car Show.I'll have a look Tomorrow.TBH,i had a look Today but it seemed to be one of those "Too Good To be True" things.

I have a 1932 chevy sedan that I drive occasionally. During the summer months, it would boil over during city driving. The cooling system is very clean. It is just the nature of the beast. Chevrolet did not put a thermostat in those cars, although they do allow for one to be put in it, which I did, with little or no benefit. I added Evans Waterlass coolant and have had excellent results. No boil over, temperature just a few degrees over normal due to the better heat transfer to the coolant. Evans folks said to expect that. I am very pleased with the results. I am going to put it in all my other cars because of other benefits. Go to their website (just enter "waterless coolant" in Bing or Google, etc).
