I will later when I can reply to their email at home. I'll give them the measurements you gave, did you get both front and rear in that size?

I spoke to both CraigsPlates and MyShowPlates. Neither knew. Gary's dimensions are correct.

Craigsplates did me a 15" x 3.5" which fits, but looks "please pull me over" small.

MyShowPlates could only do a 16"x4.5", but biased the text to one side so the text was correctly centered after I trimmed an inch off the width.

I had the same size plate on mine a few years ago, I got stopped twice in 18months, after the 2nd stop the DVLA took the plate back, reason was because I displayed it illegally (Font size) they issued me with the original plate, no appeals process just straight forward removal, Ive since changed the original to another 5 digit plate just this time a bit bigger but still fits in the recess.

That looks like the 15x3.5 I got from Craigsplates.

The larger one from MyShowPlates has larger, and "thicker" font. I believe it meets all the requirements outlined in the link earlier in this thread for a non UK type-approved car. smile

May as well throw mine into the mix. Had the plate made so that the width perfectly fits the recess, but kept it to full UK height, font, character spacing etc and is 100% road legal.

I don't understand how the DVLA can take your plate, particularly as it meets the criteria explained in the VOSA and DVLA documentation regarding imported vehicles, especially if the Police did not charge you £60 for an illegal plate I would have just had another plate made the same size. It seems to me that if the plate meets the requirements of the documentation and is taken by the DVLA, then all the Jaguars, Range Rovers etc with larger than required plates should also have their's taken away. I do know of a guy that was charged with having an oversize number plate on his motorbike.

I've had a small plate on the front of my VXR for 2 years and never been stopped, but i have the necessary paperwork in the car for the over zealous copper.

The issue was the size of the font, DVLA can revoke a plate anytime they desire, there is no appeals process as such simply a letter explaining why they are revoking, its not my first revoked plate and im sure it wont be my last lol

Yes it does have the BS number printed on the plate smile It doesn't show on the photo becuase the BS text is so small. It's fully road legal and complient.

(where's that damn 'smugg' smily!)

I've been quoted about £27 for the small front plate!

Got my paperwork through from DVLA today so just got to send it off with the V5 and MOT and get the plates made up.

Anywhere else do the front plate size for less than the price quoted by Craigsplates above?

The other problem is going to be sorting the screw holes front and rear if I have the smaller plates!
