mine doesn't work frown

I look for a heartbeat, sometimes it finds it but most of the time it will come up with an error, something about it being too long or something.

What am I doing wrong??!?!

Sounds like the errors I was getting when I was using the wrong sort of cable. It took me 3 tries to get the correct one !

Think I've sorted it now, I had the 3.3v cable not the 5v.

I just installed my cable and it appears to be OK after a bit of messing around installing the drivers.

I'm not sure this is as a result of messing with the cluster, or if they all do it, but I found out at the weekend that if I hold down the mode button for long enough when the overspeed indicator is being displayed, I get another set of overspeed options. There are 4 different speed settings that can be selected. Might be useful if you have plenty of points on your licence....

FTDI amended their drivers to stop pattern cables working, and they helpfully write a load of crap onto the adaptor so they can't be used with an old driver too, nice touch. I had to download a utility to correct the cable, and then make sure I only used it on a PC with an older driver.

Hmmm, I just ordered a different adapter - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122259708754?_trksid=p20...

First one was able to listen to the heart beat but failed when trying to program: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322065081181?_trksid=p20...

I'll try smile

FTDI make the genuine cable, and their driver is the bit of code that allows Windows to talk to the cable. They don't like the rip offs from ebay so they changed their driver to detect pattern cables and to disable them.

Hello & Good Evening All,

I was browsing through the gassing forums looking for info and came across you guys talking about instrument clusters, so thought I would explain a problem I have.

I have a 2004 Monaro CV8.
Problem with mine is the LEDs on the centre display and the two out displays are disappearing, faint too read.
Cannot buy a new unit as no longer available.
I managed to obtain a second hand unit. Have plugged it in and all seems good except mileage reading is a lot higher than my original.
Questions I have for you gents are;
Can the original one be repaired?
Can the mileage be altered on the 2nd hand unit?

I am a diesel mechanic by trade, but do have some marbles upstairs when it comes to hands on work.

Thank you for your time.
Wayne.
