neil I pretty successfully smashed my heel about 14 years ago, I was too ill to operate, smashed the calcaneus too. Today I walk sometimes pain free sometimes with pain but my foot was mangled beyond recognition and I get by, if they offer to fix the ankle (fuse it) you can get a 2nd opinion as I chose not to
Calcaneus is what I have fractured no other damage to my ankle which the doc was quite surprised about
Apparently it's quite rare to just break that & nothing else
phew! I did everything but what I can say is they can fix the foot I was too poorly, for me the full fix was recommended to have whats left of the ankle fused so I would lose the limited lateral movement so fingers crossed. I'm relatively pain free or rather used to it, my calcaneus has heeled (sic) quite remarkably so hopefully you'll be ok smile

Just seen this Neil.

Sorry to hear about it, and I hope they don't have to operate.
You & me both!!
How's the toy? Did you get the engine out yet?
I had to buy a new ram for my hoist to replace the mysterious broken one!, so it's ready, but have been enjoying sitting around all Easter.

I could /should have done it this morning, but my back is playing up, so I need to let that calm down and realign before I start twisting again.

Rest up mate and take it easy..obviously not ideal with business to run though frown

I wrecked my knee 17 years ago and due to not listening to doc's and getting back in action too soon I made things worse, have since had 3 more op's over the years and given up now. I just live with it dislocating daily and pop it back in myself.

Take you time..it will be worth it in the long run.

Good advice, but easier said than done when you're running a business.
I was running my own workshop back then and was in the same situation in Neil, and so I short changed the physio and got back to work too soon and NOW pay the price for life.

What started out as a torn ligament that is usually stitched together and 100% healed in 6 weeks has progressed to osteoarthritis, ligament grafts from my calf and hamstrings which are now screwed into the top of my shin and thigh bones, 3 reconstruction operations and The knee join is so worn from years of instability it now dislocates daily. I'm only 38 frown

ALL of the above is because I HAD to get back too run my business and because I thought I knew better than the people who advised me otherwise. If I knew then what I know now..i would have most certainly listened to good advise.

Much easier said than done..I appreciate that.

Mrs Roid sent me an email to see if I could clean her car today, alas not and just as well as the skies opened.... Emma does not sound on the phone how I imagined her to!
