Sorry to drag up an old topic.

What was the conclusion to this as I know my old supercar exhaust droned like mad between 50-75ish, though it did make an awesome noise everywhere else. From what I've read the tourers are more prone to suffering from drone, I could live with the drone if it was me but as I bought it to transport the dogs I'm looking for less drone.
Basically I'm looking at switchable exhausts which provide for almost stock refinement when on quiet but unleashing as much noise as possible when open.

So does either the Walkinshaw or Wortec Bimodals drone when set to quiet?

Or has any one any experience of these, as it looks like I can get one for ~£1400 (inc duty & VAT):

(I know this is a promotional vid but this sounds to be exactly what I want)

The second question is 2.5" or 3"?

Have got the Walkinshaw 3" Bi-Modal on my GTS and have got Tim to fit a manual switch inside the cabin, loud when you want to be (all the time) quiet when you need to be (never)

It is generally loud inside the cabin at crusing speed, but I quite like it, I imagine it a bit like sitting in a Lanc Bomber smile however, hit the button and it's nice and refined.

Plus on the 3" you can get the 4" Billet tips cool

I had an LS2 manual and an LS3 auto both with Wortec catback exhausts and neither droned at all.

the Solution is the quarter wave "J" pipe design where you can tune out the resonance, should come up in the search field .

it seems it is a very common problem on V8s due to the firing sequence at a certain speed/frequency

This is the best solution IMO! I have the X-Force Varex complete stainless steel system.
Loud when I need it and at the press of a button, near stock sound.
This button is on a remote fob.
I think the other more common exhausts have them too...Walky and Wortec.

You could do the same as we have.

A kissing pipe instead of all of the centre boxes, and electric cutouts on the last bend before the rear boxes, with 3" trims over the top of the aluminium rear tips, All done for under £350, and I then either have cat back open pipes that exit just behind the rear wheels, or a whisper quiet system to stop fatigue on long runs. smile

Do you mean one of these instead of the centre boxes?

Did you just get a local exhaust place to weld it together?

Yup - Magnaflow X-Pipe replacing the primary silencer. Made a massive difference on mine.

I'm now running different back boxes (WP Bi-Modals with black Billets tips). I can't describe the noise in loud mode..except for pure evil smile (sound clip on my Facebook site) but there is a a nasty rasp at around 2.5K due to the new tail boxes really amplifying the noise from the de-cats.
So after some research, turns out Magnaflow also do a resonated X-pipe - wont decrease the volume but will all but eliminate the rasp. Being fitted at the moment.

I had the centre box on my 2.5" custom system replaced in Basingstoke with one of these. They built it from scratch in 2.5" pipe and its works a treat. Cost about £130 I think which for the time they spent was a bargain in my view. They loved the car as well and the SC!

Please can you tell me what the Magnaflow X-Pipe would do to mine? Would it make it louder or quieter, what does it actully do. Sorry for all the questions. I have the Walkinshaw super car exhaust cat back on mine.

The X-Force Varex is what I have fitted & yes, when in quiet mode (set using wireless keyfob) the exhaust is pretty much standard - so quiet & no drone. It is also great when leaving home early or arriving back late at you can just flick into quiet mode & keep on the good side of your neighbours. Mine is only a CAT back system so cannot comment if you had headers fitted as that would make louder. You often find the Varex systems on eBay Oz - just be aware when comparing prices as they also sell in mild steel as well - not really any good for UK climate.

It's replacing the primary silencer so , yes, it will be louder with more pronounced pops and bangs.

yes

You can just about see the new pipework in the middle.
