Well, I'm back home with a cammed V8 cool

My first thoughts mainly surrounded the idle, which is superb.

I will admit that it isn't as town-friendly as a standard car. There's some hesitance and jumpiness but this only happens occasionally. The rest of the time it is extremely well-mannered.
.
You rarely get a tune right in one hit, ask Ringram, they're never really finished. All depends on how he worked IATs and ECTs down low. Did you go mafless? If you did I might be able to help with that jumpiness. I used a 224-232 114+4 on my 6.0L. The cam was spec'd for L92 heads, although it worked really well stock 243's.

My lappy speakers are incapable of reproducing those frequencies spin

As Gareth said, I'd have thought you could improve the manners if you have the means...although there is some joy in the rough edges smile

Still got the maf Gareth. I'm sure the tune could be tidied up- John said that if there was anything I wasn't happy about he would try and resolve. Once I've got a few more miles on it I'll go back to him to get it tweaked. smile

That's pretty much the nail on the head, particularly with the idle. It was mentioned that the idle could be increased to make it smoother, but that would have lost some of the lope - it was a big no to that! laugh
I'll get a better video sorted at the weekend, using my gopro.

Ok sounds about right then. Idle takes about 98% of the time. As long as it starts ok and doesn't stall.

Lose the maf and add 200 rpm.
I wouldn't be surprised if you hit 420 then.

Is the MAF really that much of a problem on the LS2 and LS3? I've heard that it's a restriction on the LS1 - hence why people went MAFless, but I thought it was less so on the later engines, and is no more restrictive than the throttle body.

If manufacturers could get away with making cars with one less component, they'd jump at it, but they still all fit MAFs.

Yes.
Maf is not a restriction stock, but it's not stock...

But is the MAF a restriction at this level of tune? I haven't seen that the TB has been ported or changed, or that the intake manifold has been reworked.

Maf always restricts thats what it does. 85mm vs 90mm with an obstruction in the airflow to measure the airflow.

The question is more like how much of a restriction is it!?

That answer is for the dyno, which is exactly what they are there for. So Id retune mafless and redyno, that will tell you by how much it was/is.

+1 on that one. Expensive experiment though (unless it works).

ETA. Love that idle! smile

Isn't 800 normal for a manual? Low even for a cammed car? Or is that just what the gauge reports?

Yep, it is a bit low- I think I'll get it increased.

This is a better video of the idle during a cold start:

Same tailpipes Roger- must be the camera angle.
