Very keen to get involved with this. Never done one before!

Apart from not being the slowest, what can be expected of a bog standard 6.0L Ro (plus a wortec)??
It's a good laugh, and very worthwhile. The event is one of a few throughout the year that are subsidised by Vauxhall, in order to publicise their performance cars. Even if you don't want to take part at this one, the hospitality is good. smile

Good to see you're coming along Liam. cool

Well I'd have to take part, just to say I've done it if nothing else!

I guess when it comes to prepping the car it's mainly a case of having decent tyres at the correct pressures?

I know it's early but 6 P's apply (proper preparation prevents piss poor performance) afterall....

I've never bothered with that - but then I'm always propping up the bottom of the table. redface

It only takes 30 seconds for a run, and you'll top out at about 150, so if your tyres are not flat, and they have the correct speed rating, you're probably good to go. smile

last year was great fun - the drive down was quite interesting to following emmaj.

best part was going against a 350hp 4wd astra gte on the 1st run.

he asked me afterwards if it was supercharged or modified.
me "only cat back and air filter"
Him " so, do you have some special sticky tyres on there"
Me " no, just normal continentals"

look on his face. priceless. I don't think he was happy I bet him to 60-70ish. he came flying past mid-range and then I reeled him in top end but not enough runway to catch.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hy26PctalHY

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JolfMP3zHHs fast forward about 55secs.
From those 2 videos it looks like he done you both times, hardly reeled him in!

the videos are from the same run. i clocked 156.56 and i think he clocked 158.? on that run. so i would think i was catching him consdiering the distance he pulled away midrange. i thought my car did well having around 50hp more and prob being about 500kgs heavier.

Right then , i dont very often get involved in tit for tat ,my cars faster than yours blah blah blah but sometimes people post such utter garbage that its impossible not to reply.
I am said 'miffed' owner of the 350bhp 4x4 Astra GTE and i did indeed attend Thunder Road last year and had a most enjoyable day, Dougie and the VXR team did themselves proud as usual.

I clearly remember speaking to someone about the spec of their car and being suprised , or 'miffed' if you like, when they said a remap and exhaust and here lies the problem, the chap i was speaking to had a GTC VXR Astra and was running in my class hence the interest from me, he managed to keep a straight face for a while before he let slip that the car was 'very' modified as shown by his 168.06mph class winning terminal speed, i have no memory of a similar conversation with a Monaro driver!! Perhaps you have me mistaken for someone else ?

Why would i be 'miffed' anyway ?? IF i was beaten by a Monaro that rolled off the production line with a top speed of 170+ mph, my Astra had a book speed of a mighty 116 mph and the aerodynamics of a brick to match, yes it now has a proper engine and is 4x4 but it is a track day toy and was well out of its comfort zone but i wanted to see what it could do , like anyone else, and was happy with the near 160mph terminal speed i acheived.

To top it off you post 2 videos of me handing your ar$e to you as evidence , looking at my results sheet you (John93t) managed a fastest speed of 156.56mph , my SLOWEST run of the day was 157.11 and my fastest was 159.85 , how does this relate to you 'reeling me in ' ???

All i need now is some snidey childish comments from Emma !! WTF are you on ?
And before you mention vested interests, what are yours ??

Noone's serious on here Anthony, our heavy cars are similarly sub-optimal and we know it.

Rustyoldnail maybe you'd do better on a track with corners, then you'd have half a chance of 'reeling a monaro in'!

If he couldn't beat you in a straight line he sure won't beat you around a track!

Both the videos and the stats contradict the original claims.

Hi, i never said you didnt hand me my ass, hence why i said "went flying past me". tbh i just expected more from a lightweight 4wd powerful car off line. that is what i was getting at.

i fully expected it to me leave me dead from the start line, which i think is where the confusion is.
i wasn't trying to slate your car either, its great for what it is and i like sleeper.

At the rate you were reeling him in, How many miles do you think you'd have needed before you caught him?

Booked, sadly the pistons for mine are delayed so it'll just be the VXR8 and the Corsa.
