Happy to oblige And before you mention vested interests, what are yours ??

Don't let the door hit you on the way out
But seriously I don't have a vested interest apart from sticking up for fellow owners and having some banter. Banter is a massive part of HSV & Monaro sub forum which you'd come to realise if you stick around. Believe it or not we are a really friendly bunch
If you are attending TR this year, introduce yourself because your GTE sounds mental

Right then , i dont very often get involved in tit for tat ,my cars faster than yours blah blah blah but sometimes people post such utter garbage that its impossible not to reply.
I am said 'miffed' owner of the 350bhp 4x4 Astra GTE and i did indeed attend Thunder Road last year and had a most enjoyable day, Dougie and the VXR team did themselves proud as usual.
I clearly remember speaking to someone about the spec of their car and being suprised , or 'miffed' if you like, when they said a remap and exhaust and here lies the problem, the chap i was speaking to had a GTC VXR Astra and was running in my class hence the interest from me, he managed to keep a straight face for a while before he let slip that the car was 'very' modified as shown by his 168.06mph class winning terminal speed, i have no memory of a similar conversation with a Monaro driver!! Perhaps you have me mistaken for someone else ?
Why would i be 'miffed' anyway ?? IF i was beaten by a Monaro that rolled off the production line with a top speed of 170+ mph, my Astra had a book speed of a mighty 116 mph and the aerodynamics of a brick to match, yes it now has a proper engine and is 4x4 but it is a track day toy and was well out of its comfort zone but i wanted to see what it could do , like anyone else, and was happy with the near 160mph terminal speed i acheived.
To top it off you post 2 videos of me handing your ar$e to you as evidence , looking at my results sheet you (John93t) managed a fastest speed of 156.56mph , my SLOWEST run of the day was 157.11 and my fastest was 159.85 , how does this relate to you 'reeling me in ' ???

Are you one of the friendly bunch that Emma mentioned earlier, i thought this was a public forum where people can voice their opinions, i was simply pointing out a few innacuracies in a post that appeared to be having a go at me, i apologise for any offence i may have caused you or any friends of yours (you do have friends dont you ?? you know, people who you actually talk to, in person, rather than on a keyboard )
Thanks for your concern

I've done the maths. You're going to miss it as you didn't leave home on 9th May to get there. We've all had cars like that. Seriously, it's a shame you can't be there. It's always a good craic.

I'm halfway through making some bespoke front coilovers , it should have been done weeks ago !! I enjoyed it last year, although as I mentioned , not really what car was built for , the drive there is really uninspiring as well for me , M1 and A14 , yawn !!
haven't you got some work to do Rustyoldnail said:

Actually very friendly with fellow petrolheads and mostly benign until provoked. And really you don't need to do that st, because you have already done your talking on the track (Well done). Nuff said. Thanks for your concern

I'm up for a race......
I got asked this evening, to explain what Thunder Road was. I realised that there may be quite a few on here that don't know, and have been too afraid to ask.
Basically, it's a standing mile drag event, and your terminal speed is measured. You can pair up with a friend, to see which one is quicker over the measured distance, or else you can just line up with whoever, wait for the light to go green, then take as long as you like to get moving. Some people pull away gently in second gear, to help the drivetrain, whereas others just nail it from the line. It doesn't matter which way you do it. Your terminal speed will still be roughly the same.
The costs are heavily subsidised by Vauxhall, and the price of £60 is for 5 runs in the morning for the competition, and then as many runs as you can queue up for in the afternoon, just for fun - when you can sometimes take passengers as well. They also feed you at lunch time (additional supporters lunch tickets are a fiver), and there's unlimited tea, coffee, and soft drinks.
It's a great social event for all the family, with the added bonus of a little friendly competition.
If anyone thinks I've missed anything, please feel free to add.

Just remembered, you don't have to run if you don't want to. You can just pay £5 per person for the hospitality, and spectate/natter.
Does this have to be in advance? My wife/son may want to come if the weather is nice.Gassing Station | HSV & Monaro | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
