Hi guys,

As per the title I am toying with the idea of importing a car from Australia. Has anyone done this before or know what to look out for/factor in for the cost?

Thanks,

James

Yep, thinking about it. The thread title wasn't showing on my phone but it is now.

Basically I am looking at importing a second hand VE Commodore to the UK from Oz.

Thanks.

Why?

vxr8's are cheaper here than Oz and better spec than the holden...

Seen an SV6 for £9,500, but wondering how much it would be to import before deciding.

Hi cost wise what ever you want add about a third to the price , you have vat, import duty, shipping , insurance , etc, I considerd it but it was easier to buy here

SV6s are worth nothing in either country, so I'm not surprised it looks tempting.

I reckon £2.5k shipping £770 duty, £1700 VAT, close to £3k for SVA I believe, and with registration takes you to VXR8 money. That's a lot of money to put into something that you bought against pictures, and don't know how it runs.

Sorry, misread. I thought the selling price was AU$9500. At £9500 the car is into supercharged VXR8 territory for a V6. eek

Thanks ARAF, I knew you'd have the answer.

I was only pondering as someone had said to me you could import for around £2,000 (I thought it too good to be true and whaddayaknow!), they must have forgotten the tax and duty!

I think it's wait for another VXR8, or if I move to Oz, HSV overload!

I've been thinking long the same lines for a VE SS ute. I know a good one can be had for around 20-22k AUD. An unmolested example isn't easy to find here. But the costs listed above are certainly an eye-opener.

When I was looking to get one this time last year I noticed the price of of an E1 with 50k mileage was 17.5 Grand and now a year later they seem to be 19/19.5 grand with 60k mileage.

It seems they are going up in price again.

Goldie has his SS Ute for sale. It's a black manual V8.

When the dollar started dropping, I was looking at a new VF. The numbers didn't stack up, and Mrs Araf didn't like the front of the VF anyway.

I would expect them to increase in value over the next few years. There is still amassive following for them in Oz, many are workhorses (SS included) so their numbers will diminish.

All 'niche' cars have. 2 years ago, you could get a VXR8 for £12k, and a VXR Monaro for £8k.
