Hi all,

I am going to be replacing my tires on my VXR8 and have decided after some research to go with Michelin Pilot Super Sports.
The standard tire sizes for stock 19" wheels I believe are 245/40R19 98Y front and 275/35R19 96Y rear.
I have Pedders coilovers on the car and so it is lower than stock, I will post a pic below.
A few questions..

Does the 98Y/96Y number matter as I think it is different on the MPSS?

I have read that MPSS can be wider than other tires with the same quoted sizing, is this true?

Can you fit wider tires front and rear with the stock 19" rims and lowered as mine is?

With all of the above in mind what sizings would you suggest and where would you buy them (I've heard Camskill is good)?

Sorry for all the questions, any help is greatly appreciated!

Alex

The 96 and 98 are the load index of the tyre (98 on the front axel and 96 on the rear). So long as you don't go lower than these numbers you should be OK.

The Y is the speed index. Y = 186mph max, which is the highest speed rating. I suggest you keep to this if you're going to push it every now and then.

I tend to shop at any of the below:

www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk
Blackcircles
Camskill
www.mytyres.co.uk
www.asdatyres.co.uk
www.tyreleader.co.uk

Sorry I only answered two of your questions, no doubt someone will be along to answer the rest smile

The 96Y/98Y number matters, it's a ref. to sidewall stiffness IIRC. The R8 is heavy so go with 96/98's. (or higher if they do them)
MPSS are a tad wider than than most. I'm running Potenza 285 at the rear, and have less than 10mm clearance to the inner arch. I'd stick to 275 if fitting MPSS smile

One of the best mods I've done, 285/35 19 on the back and 245/49 19 on front no clearance issues, massive increase in traction and handling , for only £550 after I sold my old Bridgestones to some pauper BMW drivers on ebay! biggrin
