Hi guys (and girls),
I just thought i'd poke my head in and say 'Hi' since I've only recently joined the forum and, more importantly, am due to pick up my new purchase tomorrow! (an '04 CV8 in Impulse Blue) I am...very excited... to say the least!
The car is stock at the mo, and when i went for a test drive, I was quite surprised at how tame it sounds in general. Does anyone else share this thought? (Initially, this will no doubt prove to be a good thing as the missus has no idea it's a great big V8!!)
However, I feel sure that before long, i will be looking to give it a bit more of a burbly rumble (a little more 'presense' if you like).
Do you guys have any good recommendations as to the best way to rectify this within a sensible budget for the time being? (bearing in mind that this months wages will go into the fuel tank!

I've only ever seen about 2 cars with a stock exhaust, so you're not alone on that
Depending on where you're based, standard options for exhaust are AAS in Newcastle, Monkfish near MK, or Walkinshaw towards Oxford.
You can also have the centre silencers removed by any old exhaust place and that'll give you some more volume I believe.

I've heard of a 'Two hole mod' for the air box and chucking a new panel filter in... any thoughts on that? (has anyone done it on a CV8 and had nice results? (it's just a bit more of an induction-ey sound i think i'm after initially....at least while I save up some more cash for a proper exhaust upgrade).
There is a place nearby that do quite a bit of work on big V8s who seem to know their stuff, maybe I'll swing by there in a few weeks and have a chat with them (after the initial grin wears off!).
I'll get a nice pic uploaded asap anyway, once i get my hands on it

Stainless cat-back = good noise
Headers = more volume/valvetrain noise
Straight-through = blare/drone
No cats = rasp
All in my opinion/experience, and will vary a bit depending on Wortec/Walkinshaw/other. I really like my full stainless (AAS headers, Wortec back) with all the silencers on. Cats are to taste, depends if you like subtlety...

The cruising aspect is definitely one to bear in mind as I will be doing a fair bit of it (plus, as mentioned before, I'll still be able to convince the girlfriend that I've bought something sensible!!).

What I would do and did was just sit on the mods just now just drive the car and enjoy in and spend a bit of time deciding what you wanna do with it, stick a K&N in it (ebay) and get a bit induction noise from it. Check out the mentioned people in previous post and chat with them about exhaust and induction parts and put together a package from what they say and then go for it and make as much noise as you can BRUM BRUM pop BANG pop BANG BANG

I'm intrigued about the ripshifter though, how are you getting on with that? One thing I did notice about the Monaro is the sloppy gearbox... I'm swapping my Mazda3 sport for it tomorrow which does have a much nicer/Sharper feel to the gear change (although nowhere near as many cool points or horses!)

Modifying a Monaro is a slippery slope, I swear Holden shipped them that way on purpose
Have a look at the National meet thread, it's up your way and it's May Bank Holiday so no excuse not to come along and see loads of other Monaro'ss and VXR8's and get some inspiration on what mods you can get....

The gear change is always going to be a bit industrial - the rip shifter just helps make it a bit more pleasant an experience.
Check out what Monkfish Performance can do on their web site - you will make a pilgrimage to there at some time it is in your destiny.

All Monaros sound like strangled 4-inlines, stock. I saw a red VXR recently with standard pipes and couldn't believe my eyes! I do wonder if that'll be "cool" in the future... I hope not :P

Mmmmm... I found myself wandering around the internet yesterday (more specifically; Youtube) to see if I could sample a couple of examples of the Wortec sound... if the real thing sounds anything close to the audio in those clips... let's just say my wallet is in for a long hard struggle over the next few months!
On a more pressing matter...I have just heard from the dealer that I'll have to postpone collection 'til tomorrow now due to a problem with the fuel level sensor. On one hand, it's reassuring that they're sorting it out, but on the other.... I have to wait a whole extra day now!!??!
Hopefully, she'll still be ready for the weekend

That's frustrating but it's very reassuring that the dealer is putting things right
If they are struggling for parts point them in the direction of Monkfish first, or try one of the breakers Speed4U or Raving (on PH) if the Fish can't help.
It's not something I've ever broken on my Monaro (and I've broken most bits)
Disappointing for you having to wait an extra day but at least the dealer is fixing it for you. Dont want to be half way home and run out of fuel because the gauge still says you have plenty
