Welcome to the madhouse... and to a very slippery slope of modding!
Look at the post dates. He beat you here. As for that slippery slope... I have a big financial barrier propping me up right now... which is both good and bad i suppose
Glad you've settled in though bud.

Sturdy,
Sorry to drag this back up... but have you tried removing the centers on an 04 CV8? I'm thinking of trying it this weekend... is it liable to drone?
I have not, I've got a VXR myself so couldn't tell you I'm afraid mate.Sorry to drag this back up... but have you tried removing the centers on an 04 CV8? I'm thinking of trying it this weekend... is it liable to drone?
I'm sure somebody on here has done it though and will be able to tell you, if we can just stop everyone welcoming you again!

I have centre boxes removed and do get a bit of drone but a louder exhaust note.I'm sure somebody on here has done it though and will be able to tell you, if we can just stop everyone welcoming you again!

Yep, that's James, heads, cam, intake, headers, exhaust, the whole lot
Only a couple of bits.So... going back a bit....when you say middle boxes removed..... you don't mean from the stock system? Or if you did, do you have any clips from when you did it? The exhaust place near me has quoted 120 bin lids to do it... seems a lot to me, but then they would have to remove the current cat-back and then replace the stock one but still....how hard is that??? :/

Sorry is yours stock system.Mine is 2.5" defilippo system. In that clip its got 1 3/4 longtube headers 100 cell performance cats fitted middle boxes removed and also has back box. It cost me £200 to have the centre boxes removed and replaced with two straight through pipes.So... going back a bit....when you say middle boxes removed..... you don't mean from the stock system? Surely someone has tried it on the stock set up??!
Only on our VE Ute, and it's not boomy at all. We took out the two centre resonators and the collector box, and put in a kissing pipe instead. It didn't release much noise though, as we have standard rear boxes still on the system.StuRo said:

When I picked up my 04 VXR it had the middle boxes removed, from my understanding it's very similar to the CV8 exhaust. Although comes with short headers.I don't think you will suffer with much drone, I do think though you will probably want more noise at some point. So might just be worth getting a proper exhaust straight away. It'll save you money long run.
Still got my original system stored away, but now running a pair of straight through silencers mid mounted and no rear box. It's loud, but still not up to some of the guys on here in volume.
hi stu
i had cv8 with wortec exhaust and difillipo headers and this is what it sounded like on the rollers if its any help. sure id took the centre boxes out and it was de catted. rather loud lol

Hey guys,
Big thanks for the responses. Looks like I just need to decide whether £120 is worth it for now... Provided I keep the car long enough, I'd love to get the Wortec one day, but i need something to 'put me on' for the time being so maybe the centre box delete is the way to go as a happy medium.
Don't suppose anyone has any little clips that might tip the balance for me?
I'll get you a pint if I ever actually get to a meet!
